As indicated in the previous Flash (May 2006), ACE when used to its full potential is about maximizing the value of each member relationship with the credit union. In this second part to ACE Best Practices we will be looking at how you can enhance your understanding of your current relationships with your members.

We will explore:

· How you can use ACE segmentation to identify the quality or potential of your member relationships

· Identify how important it is to add third party information such as Q-Trade or Credential Asset Management data as well as other sources to the Portfolio Summary View

· The benefits of utilizing a profitibility engine and incorporating that data into the ACE profile views

ACE is a powerful tool and a rich source of information for you to better serve your members and increase the value of each of your member relationships.

Enhance Understanding of Current Relationship

Use ACE segmentation to identity quality or potential of member relationship.
· Household segments in ACE are defined by your credit union and could indicate the current or potential value of the relationship. Segment is clearly identified on the main screen in ACE and gives the users an understanding of the quality or potential of the relationship at a glance.
· This segmentation attribute can be manually administrated or automatically updated via a periodic automated process.

Add Third Party Data to Portfolio Summary view
· ACE’s Portfolio Summary view brings together all the products held by the members in the household. Many of our clients have extended this view to include mutual funds, securities, QTrade, and insurance information. Having this data available provides a very robust view of the member relationship and helps staff understand the breadth of the relationship better.

· Many staff use the current “Portfolio Summary” because it brings together all the products for the household in a single picture. There is so much more value in this view when it includes off-balance sheet products (which staff really have no easy means to access) and the profitability of those individual products to the credit union.

Here is a sample of the Portfolio Summary with those elements:

Bulk load beacon scores into ACE
· Credit score can be a good indicator of the particular member the staff person is dealing with. The beacon score will be automatically captured as credit bureaus are performed through ACE or IntelliLender, but doing an annual bulk run and loading these values into ACE would be helpful.

Audit and encourage accurate building of ACE households
· ACE enhances the view of the relationship providing the means to define the relationship as a household. Though households could be organized automatically, they are typically managed by the relationship manager who can then control the view based on their knowledge of the individual relationship.

·By monitoring the metrics such as the number of new households to new members, management could ascertain whether householding practises are being effectively implemented during new member processes.

Add profitability data to profile views
· Neocog encourages the use of a reliable profitability engine. The profitability information that is provided can then be loaded into the "Portfolio Summary" to provide detailed information on the profitability status of the household.

· Using historical profitability and average balances information (typically works in conjunction with Cognito for this type of view) you can actually provide custom views in ACE which show trending information about the relationship, such as the following:

Added Value
This second group of best practices will encourage use of ACE because it adds value for staff on the frontlines. Staff can understand the relationship in a much more meaningful way than they ever have before. By having a deeper understanding of the relationship, staff can more appropriately interact with the member, making each contact more efficient and effective. More importantly, from a members perspective, they can interact with a staff person whom they have met for the very first time, who knows and has access to their unique situation and history with the credit union.

"Coaching Tips"

Tip #1

Neocog recommends that you include "off-balance sheet" product balances in your portfolio summary. Your banking system only shows a partial picture of your members business. By including this information your staff can have a complete financial picture of the member and their household in one convenient consolidated view.

"Your Best Practices"

Neocog welcomes input from all of our family of ACE users. We encourage and appreciate your feedback so that we can continually improve our products and services for you. If you have any "best practices" that your credit union is using that may be helpful to share with our other clients please pass it along to us. If you have any questions about anything in this Flash article or would like to pass on your credit unions "best practices" please email your suggestions to jason@neocog.com or call us at 519-494-7290.

"Coaching Tips"

Tip #2

Running frequent campaigns in the early stages of an ACE implementation will really encourage use of the contact management functionality. Accompanied with this, users can have a real time view of their sales tracking figures. This practice will certainly get users in the habit of using ACE right from the start.
